When choosing your benefit bike, there are certain rules to follow, based both on the Swedish Tax Agency’s guidelines and our own warranty terms. Here, we explain what applies to accessories and used bikes.
What types of bikes are covered?
You can lease most types of new bikes powered by pedals, including electric bikes.
Examples: Mountain bikes, road bikes, hybrid bikes, and cargo bikes.
Not covered: Electric scooters, Segways, and electric wheelchairs are not considered a bicycle benefit under the law.
What accessories can I include?
The Swedish Tax Agency is clear about what may be included in the tax-free bicycle benefit. Only equipment considered permanent parts of the bike may be leased. Check out this article for a more detailed list of which accessories may and may not be leased.
Tip: Even though you can’t lease, for example, a helmet or a bike trailer, you can easily purchase these separately directly from the retailer when you pick up your bike!
Why are the rules so strict?
Under the law (Government Bill 2021/22:34), accessories that are not necessary for cycling itself are considered a separate taxable benefit. To make things as simple and safe as possible for you and your employer, we strictly follow these guidelines so that no unexpected tax consequences arise.
